Networking and Communication for Mainstreaming Gender Dimensions in Water Resources: The GEWAMED Project Mainstreaming Gender Dimensions Into Water Resources Development And Management In The Mediterranean Region (GEWAMED) is a project financed by INCO (International Scientific Co-operation) Programme within the Six Framework Research Programme of the European Commission (EC) and addressed to the countries of the Mediterranean Region. The project is a Coordinated Action and this means that it emphasizes networking and co-ordination of on-going research activities. A total number of 18 institutions from 14 countries from the Mediterranean Region participate in the project. The main lines of action and activities are summarized below. Build an extensive knowledge base for mainstreaming gender dimensions into the processes of integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) through the development of:
Organise Regional Workshops and an International Conference The Project will improve the cooperation and dialogue among partners and external organizations interested in Gender and Water issues through the organization of three Regional Workshops
Interact with EU Research Projects GEWAMED Project is in interaction with other projects dealing with water resources and focusing on information, knowledge management to promote coordination and exchange of experiences such as WADI, MELIA, INECO, WASAMED, NOSTRUM-DSS, and AQUASTRESS
Establish National Networks / Gender and Water Teams In countries of the South and East Mediterranean Region in order to involve other collaborating Institutions interested in the field of Gender and Water as well as to disseminate the generated knowledge particularly in the Rural Areas
Disseminate Project’s Objectives and Work Through the participation to several international events
